GRA delegation embarks on study visit on Taxation

A delegation immersed itself in learning from the Swedish Revenue Authority has embarked on a high level visit on taxation and digitalization to Finland. It’s to gain from Scandinavia country’s success story on taxation in the East African-Finnish Partnership on Taxation Capacity in Africa (AFP-TCA). During the visit, which was held at the Head of GRA’s Digital Transformation & Technology Department, Mr Sea Jecff who both represented Mr Anthony Kwasi Sarpong delegation together with Head of GRA’s Digital Transformation & Technology Department, Mr Sea Jecff who both represented Mr Anthony Kwasi Sarpong.

The weeklong immersive and hands-on learning experience, which was from September 1-5, provided a great opportunity to learn from the Finnish regime, which ensures fiscally and sustainable compliance.

Addressing tax administrators highlighted strides being made by the Commissioner General in addition, the use put in digitalize the economy on the informal sector.

She emphasized the importance of tax education and voluntary compliance as deterrent to residents in tax efficiency and evasion.

The visit was organized collaboratively by the Finnish Institute of Public Management (AIMS) and the Finnish Capacity Building Foundation (CBF) within the framework of the African-Finnish Partnerships on Taxation Capacity in Africa (AFP-TCA) initiative.

Background and rationale

Efficient taxation is essential to the sustainable development and economic resilience of many countries, playing a vital role in financing essential public services and infrastructure.

The rapidly evolving digital economy presents opportunities as well as formidable challenges, compelling tax compliance, facilitating their digital transformation.

The AFP-TCA initiative is a targeted and strategic collaboration between African and Finnish institutions is aimed at mutual learning, joint capacity building between the co-development of actionable and sustainable and relevant tax administrative policies and practices.

The AFP-TCA initiative prioritizes knowledge exchange and capacity building strategy for enhancing domestic resource mobilization by improving tax administration systems, data and revenue collection efficiency, and taxpayer compliance. Participation countries include Ghana, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Chad, and Kenya among others.
